Cars 2 Review

Cars 2 may already be a bit more publicized than its original counterpart, and it certainly is better, but to leave it at this would be an understatement because not only is Cars 2 bigger and better, it is also one of the best films to come out this year, which is pretty impressive for a children's movie from Pixar.  This is also surprising given the fact that many people think that Cars was one of the weakest films Pixar ever released in their 16 years, but they did an excellent job with the follow-up.

Of course, Pixar has already exhausted a great deal of childhood themes making it harder to come up with original ideas what with toys, bugs, and monsters all off the table already.  However, after Cars the first film it did not seem as if another Lightning McQueen saga was going to be any better.  Enter Cars 2 that suddenly turned Lightning into Fast and the Furious for tots and you have a story that instantly gets better by the second and is quite engaging for adults as well as the children.  Outside of the fact that the film is completely different than the first, it also has a great subplot making it worth the time to watch it.

Back for the second time around are the voices of Owen Wilson as Lightning and Larry the Cable Guy as Mater which is the main relationship discussed, but then under the surface is a nice spy caper and action film that even opens with a signature James Bond action scene that is sure to delight both young and old audiences alike.  In this scene we quickly meet Finn McMissle voiced by Michael Caine that is also along for the ride and really start to buckle down into a new type of Cars.

The first story that comes up is the Fast and the Furious plot with Lightning attempting to prove that he is the fastest out there as he enters the World Grand Prix along with different cars from all over the world which sees him travel toTokyo,London, and Porto Corso.  The real challenge comes from a Formula 1 car named Francesco Bernoulli who is voiced by John Turturro and really ads to the spice of every race in full glory 3D.  Soon enough things get complicated however as they think Mater is an American spy and things start to get messy.

From here strong political themes start to develop which is odd for a Pixar film and alternative fueled cars spear off against those that use fossil fuel leading to some spies, some agents, and some evil doing of course that even eventually leads to some character deaths which is highly unexpected in a Pixar film.  The rest you will have to head to the theatre to see, but make sure that you purchase a 3D ticket because between the action and the racing this is one film you will be glad you popped out an extra few dollars to see in its intended glory.
